Zucchini Chocolate Cake

We made Zucchini Chocolate Cake!

Some of us were a little skeptical when we found out there was zucchini in our cake, but
we were excited to try it out!

The pictures are not in order... sorry!  More than one camera was being used!

I will post the recipe soon!
Everyone liked the cake and agreed that the cake taste more
like chocolate than zucchini!

12-8-11/12-9-11

Thursday and Friday this week were Computer Days.  On each of these days, one group goes to the Computer Lab and one group stays in the classroom to do an activity with the teacher.  We did a math activity this week--producing 2-digit numbers and locating them on a 100 chart.
In the computer lab this week, children created a winter scene on the computer and were able to print it.  The children LOVE when they are allowed to print what they create in the computer lab.

DISCOVERY DAY!

We did a messy, yummy discovery activity today!  First, the children were shown the fruit in the photo below and asked to identify it.  Answers included:  an onion; a pomegranate; an apple.  The children were told it was a pomegranate and given the opportunity to hold it as the teacher told them facts about this fruit including:  it is one of the oldest fruits; it is grown in warm places; it can have up to 1,000 seeds; and the part of the fruit you eat are the seeds..  Next, after washing hands and putting on a smock, each child was given his/her own piece of a pomegranate to take apart and eat.  Be sure to ask your child about pomegranates!

Cooking, 12/5/11

We made our own doughnuts today!
We watched a video on Hanukkah and we discussed the oil that became
a Hanukkah miracle!
We also discussed some foods that are fried in oil.
We decided that doughnuts would be a GREAT food for us to make
and fry in oil!

So, we first had to flatten our dough.
We then poked a hole in our dough.

Then we fried them in oil!

We then had the option of sprinkling our doughnuts with powdered sugar,
cinnamon sugar, or BOTH!

YUM!
