Discovery Day!

For Discovery, we introduced the 5 Senses!
We talked about the sense of sight and also talked about the differences
in peoples eyes!

We read this book...

and played a few eye-games...

And then we colored an eye to match our own!

We then glued our eyes to a piece of paper that matched our eyes...

After that, we compared all the colors and decided who had the most,
the least, and if any were equal!

SWIMMING~MONDAY 11-28-11

The children enjoyed today's swimming class--the first day back from Thanksgiving Break.  The highlight was when Mr. Yakscoe brought out intertubes and demonstrated how they float and can help swimmers stay afloat.  Enjoy the slide show of photos below of today's swimming class!

Discovery Day with EGGS!

We discussed the different colors of eggs.
Many of us had never seen a brown egg before!

For our experiment today, we took two eggs and spun them.
One of the eggs would spin but the other one wouldn't.
We tried to figure out why!
We came up with a lot of great reasons...

*one might be heavier
*one was cold and the other warmer
*one was bigger

Everyone got a chance to spin an egg and then we broke them open to see what was different
about them!

We discovered that one egg was a solid and was was a liquid!
The solid egg, or the hard-boiled egg, spun but the
raw or liquid egg wouldn't spin.

Why?

The raw egg has movement in the inside since it is a liquid... so it won't spin.
The solid egg is able to spin because the material inside is solid and does not have
the ability to move around when spun!

Very exciting!

"GREEN EGGS AND HAM (OR TURKEY)"

To start today's cooking class, we started by reading the book, Green Eggs and Ham--a great story filled with rhymes, humor, and fun!  Next, we made our own green eggs.  Each child had the opportunity to crack an egg; stir the eggs; and then stir the eggs again once the green food coloring was added.  Next, we watched as the liquid eggs turned to a solid as they cooked.  Finally, we ate the green eggs along with a choice of ham or turkey!  Enjoy the photos below!

If was a very fun and busy time!
